About The Island Project
The Island Project is a specialist educational facility that supports children and young people with complex needs, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder and related challenges. It provides a highly personalised and nurturing environment where students can thrive.
The school focuses on creating individualised education programs tailored to each student’s unique needs, offering specialist support such as therapy services, and teaching essential life skills to promote independence. Its inclusive approach ensures that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
The challenge
The Island Project had an ageing IT infrastructure from WiFi connectivity, smoothwall IP filtering box and phone system with a number of issues – some equipment was end of life with associated maintenance issues, basic system management was difficult and it wasn’t fully meeting the needs of the school. The school were also in the process of moving to a new site due to the construction of HS2. The in house ICT team wanted a solution to this growing number of problems.

The Result
The issues Island Project were experiencing with maintenance of end of life equipment, difficult management and up-to-date features have been resolved with minimal disruption during the switch over to newer equipment aswell as the migration and installation at their new site.
Staff now have mobility within the building with the ability to take their phone extension with them. Instead of being limited to a system locked into a single service provider, our VOIP solution allows them to choose the underlying hardware as well as being able to easily upgrade to take advantage of new features. A shrewd way to ensure value for money by building longevity into their choice of solution.
